Unit Studies: A Living Curriculum

At our school, we believe that learning should be engaging, meaningful, and hands-on. Our curriculum combines the creative exploration of unit studies with a strong foundation in language arts and practical life skills like gardening and sustainability. Each subject is designed to nurture curiosity while building knowledge and confidence in every learner.

Biology comes to life in our garden. From soil health and composting to seasonal planting, students experience the cycle of life with their own hands.

Applying Paint Colors
Arts & Handwriting

We value the beauty of old-fashioned skills. Our daily rhythm includes focused watercolor studies and the discipline of cursive handwriting for fine motor mastery.

Outdoor Nature Study

Learning is an outdoor adventure. Daily nature walks and scientific observations encourage a lifelong bond with the environment and deep respect for the land.

At Spora School, the garden is more than just a place to grow plants, it’s where curiosity takes root.

Each day, students step outside to care for our living classroom. They plant seeds, tend vegetables, observe insects, and watch the slow, beautiful process of growth unfold over time. Through hands-on gardening, children naturally explore science, responsibility, and patience.

Our garden integrates learning across subjects:

  • Science through soil health, plant life cycles, weather, and ecosystems

  • Math through measuring, spacing, and tracking growth

  • Writing & Observation through journaling and nature sketches

  • Responsibility through daily care and stewardship

Students experience the rhythm of the seasons, harvest what they’ve grown, and develop a deeper connection to the natural world.

At Spora, we believe some of the most meaningful learning happens with dirt on your hands and wonder in your mind.

Nature Journaling

Nature journaling helps students slow down, observe closely, and connect more deeply with the world around them. By sketching, writing, and asking questions, children build skills in science, writing, and critical thinking—while developing curiosity and a lasting appreciation for nature.
